How does one become a "FORMER" sex offender?
Is there a 12-step program? Is there a court-approved mechanism for removing the conviction and record?
How often do we hear anyone called a FORMER murderer, FORMER rapist, or FORMER bank robber?
How they do that?

Nail that one up right alongside all those "alleged" robberies, shootings, burglaries, etc.

There is rarely a good reason for using "allege" in anu of its various forms. News organizations use the word beleiving doing so protects them from being aued. It doesn't. They write "John allegedly shot....." rather than write "police have arrested john for shooting...." thinking they are 1. Protected from being sued and 2. Because doing so takes fewer words...
