Today's Puzzle From the Kids in the WOWO News Room

OK, kids. Today's puzzle. Read the two news stories and decide if there was one accident or two.

To make things more challenging, the Kids in the WOWO newsroom seem to have trouble geographically identifying the area.....so, you're on you own.

Good luck.

News Not Everyone Can See

The established media continues to struggle with the new media. One of the prime examples of this is when old media attempts to "cross platform" their product to the new media side.

The main attribute of TV is a moving picture. So, it makes sense that TV would want integrate that into their electronic media platform. However, the established media forgets that there are limitations.

For example, this story. For someone with a direct internet connection, there's not problem. Just click the link for a replay of a story from tonight's newscast.
Same thing for a smart phone user with an unlimited data plan. Click the link, watch the 'rest of the story'.

However, for many people this webpage news story is nothing but a tease with no payoff. For viewers with, restricted limited data plans or who are stuck behind workplace cyber security firewalls limiting or blocking video streaming, this news story is worthless......

If You We From Around Here, You'd Know....

Ugh. Rookies. Rookie mistakes.

Today's gaffe:

What say it the matter, you ask?

First off, the Sagamore of the Wabash award is not something that someone competes for. That is, the person who receives this prestigious and coveted award is not a "winner", they are are "recipient". There was not 50 yard dash, there was no arm wrestling competition, not even a bikini runway line up. They earned the honor thought their actions and hard work, usually over many years.
It's an honor bestowed by the Governor of the state. There is a vetting process, but no wagering is allowed.

Secondly, there's a glaring typo in the paragraph mentioning Gloria Perez.

While the Perez error can not be pinned on being an out-of-stater, it can be attributed to the fact that the suits that run WOWO really don't care seem to exercise any control over what comes out on the web or over the air. The fact that their newsroom is referred to as "Romper Room" by others in the media and people like the Maven who enjoy picking nits seems to not worry anyone.

Why?

Why does local media continue to do everything humanly possible to make themselves appear to be idiots, fools and buffoons?

The Maven finds it incredible that someone could miss an error like this.

To be clear:
No, the NCAA is not located in Fort Wayne.
No, they are not a civil rights organization.

The error is glaring......and apparently tolerated. WPTA, also known as 21Alive seems to be just going through the motions.......

An isolated incident, an error. Yeah, right.

And as they say on the radio: "....and the hits just keep on comin'..."

Local TV Lowers The Bar

While the kids in the WOWO news room are the undisputed champions when it comes to demolishing the standards of spelling, grammar and syntax, the local TV news rooms have little to be proud of.

WPTA aka 21Alive offers up a good story about IPFW's new police chief. Except the story, published on August 6, states that the new chief begins her duties on JUNE 1, 2014. Clerical error, I'm sure.

Then, the writer of this WANE TV story seems to have some issues with spelling. The Maven is certain that the writer meant SCENT, instead of SENT. Or one would think that was the case.

The Maven rates these as a double face palm......

Coulda Woulda Shoulda

The English language continues to take a beating at the hands of the kids in the WOWO news room.

"...could of been worse..."

Sorry, kids....not quite.

According to englishplus.com:

Remember when WOWO news was considered a credible news source?

Me neither. .

I Got Good News, and I Got Bad News....

What a difference a day (or so) makes.

Tuesday:

Thursday:

Don't think for a minute that the media orchestrated this tight-rope walk between good and bad news. This is obviously the work of the Public Relations/Damage Control experts employed by Lutheran's parent company who worked their magic leveraging the local media. Of course, the media isn't totally off the hook on this one, since their cooperation in this case of "news management" is guaranteed by the lucrative advertising contracts that the media has negotiated with Lutheran and their parent company. In fact, each of the videos on the 21Alive website is preceded by a Lutheran Hospital advertisement.

There should not be any doubt that what you see, hear and read in the media is influenced, to a great extent, by large advertisers, politicians, and other special interests.
